This morning was definitely a Zooey Deschanel morning.
Have you seen that new commercial for the smartphone thing that talks back to you like some creepy Jetson-style personal planner? Sorry, smartphones freak me out. Anyway, there is a commercial (It's right here!) and it may be my favorite commercial of the year...so far...its only May.
The effervescently cute Zooey is talking to her phone like its a person (which is weird) and just dancing around her house. She declares that she's ordering-in tomato soup because it's raining and she doesn't feel like putting on "real shoes." Then she goes back to dancing around her house in her pj's and having a grand ol' time.
Honestly, I was super tempted to do that this week. Today, I had the hardest time getting out the door. Everything kept falling! I was knocking things over left and right, I had no inspiration to put makeup on, and it has been so rainy and cold here lately, that I just felt like having a Zooey day. Of course, I was responsible, and got to work 15 minutes early, with makeup on, and wouldn't dream of grumbling for the world. Not so secretly, I really like my job and am ridiculously grateful for it; no amount of delivery tomato soup was going to keep me from going to work. After all, I don't get paid to look cute and talk to my phone.
But what if we could do whatever we wanted for a rainy day? What would you do? My dream rainy-day to-do list looked like this this morning:
Take winter clothes out of closest, and put summer clothes in (Cause I'm an optimist)
Nurse my basil plant back to health
Make dairy-free scalloped potatoes and chocolate mousse
Have a dance party to burn off the potatoes and chocolate
Not wear real shoes
Of course, if I really was Zooey D, I would probably do all those things while looking adorable. Then I'd call my bestie, Joseph G. Levitt, and we would play the ukulele and sing...which would be problematic because I don't own a ukulele....or know how to play one....
What would you do on a rainy day off (assuming you've ever had one)?
Wait! Come back!!!! Tomorrow, that is. We're talking HBO. What about HBO? You'll just have to come back and see.....
